Pirate Day 2003There's always room for one more - 19th September, 2003Pirate Day 2003 - It was a beautiful day in Sydney - perfect for low cut wench blouses and head scarves - not so good for excessive facial hair and thigh-high boots! The third annual Pirate Day started just after 8 bells in the forenoon watch (12 noon for those non-nautical). Reigning Pirate of the Year Captain Scarlet Moon was there to pluck the first parrot, and he was soon joined by the usual crew of cutthroats, corsairs and chancers. At the height of the celebrations there were probably 15 people there, all in various stages of pirate dress & undress! Money was raised, bosoms were signed, buckles were swashed. The other patrons of St Pat's looked on enviously as the free-spirited enjoyed a day of total buffoonery, oblivious to the constraints of work lunch-hours and pressing deadlines. The Pirate Day Pentathlon was vigorously contested with over 80% of attendees completing the 5 tasks (Pirate Day Crossword, Costume, Drink, Tattoo, Piece of Eight). The winner was Lacy Ford, whose entry was pulled out much to the jubilation of Lacy, and the gnashing of teeth of everybody else.
Lacy has blood oathed to file a film review for all of us. The Pirate of the Year competition was held by secret ballot and was won by Crutchless Jones (who it must be noted stacked the numbers in his favour). Parrot Phlegm was at least his equal as far as "Behind The Scenes" work, but didn't have the numbers. There's always room for next year! List of attendees were : Captain Scarlet Moon, Fish Bits, Parrot Phlegm, Cap'n Anne Rackham, Crutchless Jones, Beardless Dog, Lacy Ford, The Lovely Dingle, Pinky O' Dowd, El Negro Barba, Y-Fronts Moore, La Denier Bleu, Blood Pethbridge, Minute Marauder, The Barbary Barman, Black Rose, Yeoman Yee, Tom the cabin boy and a few we picked up along the way.
This year's "Pirate Pack" was a success and lots of work will have to be done for 2004 to come up trumps. Here be the pictures One of the duties of the outgoing Pirate of the Year is to plunder the patrons of the pub... Capt's Scarlet Moon & Anne Rackham managed to pilfer a huge booty of AUD$65.65
The Cheque was then presented to The Mission to Sea Farers. The Cheque was well received along with a bus load of sailors...
